HEDDON SUPER SPOOK XT FISHING LURE REVIEW
Length – 5 inches
Weight – 1 oz
Manufacturer - Heddon
Full Lure Name - Heddon Saltwater Super Spook XT hard bait topwater
Rating (1 to 10, 10 being best) - 9
Type - Topwater plug/hard bait
Depth – Topwater
Colors and patterns – 10 that I know of.
Fishing for – Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, Seatrout, Ladyfish, and just about anything else that just about anything that will come to the surface to feed.
Setup – When using braided line you should always use a leader of either monofilament or fluorocarbon. Tie the lure to the leader with a loop type knot and the leader directly to the line. Do not use swivels, because it will change the way the lure performs and possibly spook the fish. When not using braided line, you can tie directly to the lure, but still use a loop knot.
Where to use these lures – Fishing open areas are best, with little or no grass in the water. Fishing around structure like Docks and Mangroves is risky with these lures. Your skill level will determine your comfort zone.
Technique – This is a walk the dog type of lure. Make long casts, and when retrieving the lure give twitch movements making the lure move from side to side. Work the lure in a clockwise pattern to cover a lot of area in a small amount of time. This is a great lure for finding where the fish are located.
Angler ability – This is not a beginner lure. It takes time to master using this lure. Practice, and when you think you’ve got it, practice some more because you don’t! Accuracy is important if using this lure anywhere near structure.
Additions – Heddon has made this lure with only 2 hooks instead of 3. In doing this they were able to increase the size and Strength of the hooks and the other hardware to handle larger and stronger fish.
Notes from Randy - If you know anything about me then you know I love Top water fishing. Super Spooks have always been a favorite for me and the only problem I ever had with them was hook and ring size and strength. The new Super Spook XT has taken care of this problem. They cost more then regular Super Spooks but to me not having a hook straighten out is worth the cost.
We regularly feature a new saltwater fishing lure that we have used to catch Snook, Redfish, Tarpon or Seatrout with. We outline the details of the fishing lure and review its performance, so that you can catch fish with them also!
